Meet Our GP's and Staff in Ashbourne Family Practice

Ashbourne Family Practice was opened in 1998 by Dr. Aisling Malone and Dr. Stephen Murphy. Since then, it has grown in size and now includes 3 other medical staff members - Dr. Dagmar Howey-Meeuse, Dr. Clare Leonard and Nurse Oonagh Govern. Karen, Lisa and Roslyn look after the reception area and are available to answer your calls between 8am and 6pm Monday to Friday. Crona looks after the day to day management of the practice.

Aisling qualified from UCD in 1994. She completed her internship in General Surgery and Medicine (working in Dermatology, Neurology and Gastroenterology) She then worked through the Cork GP Vocational Training Scheme in Medicine (Cardiology), Paediatrics (Endocrinology, Infectious Diseases and Neonatology), Obstetrics and Gynaecology and Psychiatry. She spent a further year working in a GP Practice and qualified as a GP in 1998. Aisling opened Ashbourne Family Practice later that year with Dr. Stephen Murphy. She has been an examiner for the Irish College of General Practitioners since 2003. She has completed the following:

Stephen is a medical graduate of University College Cork since 1992. As a post graduate he trained in Medicine (General, Rheumatology, Endocrinology, Cardiology and Medicine of the Eldery), Psychiatry, Paediatrics (Paediatric Oncology and Paediatric Medical Assessment) and Accident & Emergency Medicine as part of the Cork GP Vocational Training Scheme. He has been a member of the Irish College of General Practitioners since 1997. Dr. Murphy currently holds lecturer status for under-graduate final year medical students with University College Dublin and is a GP Trainer with the Mid Leinster Vocational Scheme in UCD. He holds the following qualifications:

pic of DagmarDoctor Dagmar Howey-Meeuse
Dagmar obtained her medical degree from Erasmus University Rotterdam in the Netherlands in 2009. After this, she worked in Emergency Medicine before applying for the GP Vocational Training Scheme in conjunction with Erasmus University Rotterdam. She gained experience in different training practices and completed attachments in Psychiatry and End-of-life care. After finishing her vocational training, she worked as a locum in the Netherlands before migrating to Ireland in 2014 and registering with the Irish Medical Council. Dagmar has a particular interest in paediatrics, acute medicine and end-of-life care.

Clare graduated from University College Dublin in 2007. She completed her intern year in St. Vincent's University Hospital. Following this, she began her general practice training on the Mid-Leinster Specialist Training Scheme in General Practice. As part of the scheme, Clare completed rotations in Respiratory medicine, Medicine for the Elderly, Paediatrics, Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Psychiatry and Ear, Nose and Throat Surgery. She also acquired additional training in Infectious Diseases and Ophthalmology. She spent a further 2 years working in general practice and became a member of the Irish College of General Practitioners in 2012. Clare worked in Dublin for 2 years before moving to Ashbourne Family Practice in 2015. She has completed the following:

Maria graduated from University College Dublin in 2010. She then completed her intern year working in St. Vincent's University Hospital and St. Colmcille's Hospital Loughlinstown. Following this, Maria spent a year working in Emergency Medicine in Queensland, Australia. On her return to Ireland, Maria began her General Practice training on the Dublin Mid Leinster Specialist Training Scheme. As part of this training programme she completed rotations in Emergency Medicine, Psychiatry, Endocrinology & General Adult Medicine, Paediatrics and Obstetrics & Gynaecology. She then spent two further years gaining experience as a registrar working in General Practice surgeries in North Wicklow and South Dublin as well as spending a year as the GP Registrar in Ashbourne Family Practice. Maria became a Member of The Irish College of General Practitioners in 2016. Maria has a special interest in Women's health and Paediatrics. She has completed the following:

Ashbourne Family Practice is a training practice for the Dublin Mid Leinster GP Training Scheme (Trainer = Dr. Stephen Murphy). Every year a new GP Registrar joins our practice as part of their specialist GP training. These Registrars are fully qualified doctors who have worked in hospitals for at least three years before spending a year with us. Mark is the current GP Registrar working in our practice. He graduated from University College Dublin in 2013. He completed his intern year in St. Vincent's University Hospital, Dublin working in General Surgery, Urology, Respiratory and Cardiology. He then began his General Practice Training on the UCD General Practice Training scheme. He completed rotations in Medicine, Adult and Paediatric Emergency Medicine, Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Stroke Medicine and Psychiatry. Qualifications:

Oonagh qualified as a nurse in 1999 from Thames Valley University, Ealing London. She spent two years working at the Royal Brompton Hospital specialising in respiratory medicine. She returned to Ireland in 2001 and worked in Dublin. She joined Ashbourne Family Practice in 2003, where she worked for 3 years before taking a career break to raise her family. She returned to nursing in 2010 and began working again for our practice in 2012. She has completed:
  • Membership with INMO
  • Emergency Response Training
  • Intravenous Therapy and Cannulation
  • Phlebotomy
  • Non violent crisis intervention training
  • Infection prevention and control

Antonia received her degree in nursing in 2006 from Dublin City University after which time she commenced work in Beaumont Hospital. She worked there for 10 years on a busy trauma orthopaedic and plastic surgical ward. She joined Ashbourne Family Practice in September 2016. She has completed:


  • Breast Cancer Nursing Module
  • Emergency Response Training
  • Medical/Surgical Specialist Practice Programme
  • Infection prevention and control
  • Membership with INMO

Ashbourne Family Practice now employs four administrative staff - Lisa, Karen, Roslyn and Crona. Lisa joined the practice in 2002 after completing a Business course in Dundalk IT. She has completed a Practice Staff Course in the Irish College of General Practitioners.
Karen completed a Secretarial course in Beauford College in 1993 and has completed a Risk Managment course in Dublin since starting work for the practice in 2005.
Roslyn began working in Ashbourne Family Practice in May 2012. Since starting work in the practice, Roslyn has completed a G.P. Receptionist's Master Class.
Crona joined the practice in July 2012 as our Practice Manager. She has 4 years previous experience working in a GP's surgery and has completed the Irish College of General Practitioner's course in Practice Management.
