As you may be aware, the government recently announced the expansion of free GP care to all children under the age of 8 and to households earning below the new median income threshold. Eligible current practice patients can apply in the coming months as follows:

  • If your child is aged 6 or 7, you can apply online for a Doctor Visit Card from 11th August 2023.

  • If your household earns below the median income (€47,000 per year after deductibles) you can apply online for a Doctor Visit Card. The extension of free GP care on income grounds will take place in two phases, on September 11th and November 13th.

About Ashbourne Family Practice

Welcome to Ashbourne Family Practice.

We have been providing GP services since 1998 and are located beside Dunnes Stores Car Park in Ashbourne. Medical care is provided for all ages.

We are sensitive to the needs of children and teenagers and try to make their visit to the GP as informal as possible. There are currently five doctors and two nurses working in our surgery.

We cater for both Private and GMS patients and are registered with the Garda Medical Scheme. The practice is appointment based but will endeavor to cater for urgent cases.

New Patients

Due to ever increasing demand, we are currently operating at near full capacity.

To ensure that we can continue to provide safe and timely care for our existing patients, from time to time we need to close our lists to new patients.

If you are interested in becoming a patient, please contact a member of our administration team to discuss the current situation.
